Papilio's White Waterproof Vinyl is available in two formats, one with a capable, permanent adhesive, the other, removable and reusable. Each is available in both standard letter size 8.5" x 11" as well as tabloid, 11" x 17" and features a porous, white matte finish that has been specifically designed to accept many different ink types. Pigment, solvent or dye based inks may be used to print your digital images onto this 3 mil thick vinyl with stunning clarity and color vibrancy.

This material can be used in a broad range of applications, from indoors to outdoors and when combined with our Waterproof Over Laminate sheets, or LLA5000, UV Laminate spray, are quite resistant to the elements, particularly water and sunlight - banners of dye based inks.

Is this material available in a gloss white finish?

This material is presently only available as a matte finish which allows it to be waterproof. Using an Over Laminate sheet, such as Papilio's Poly Focus Glossy (PFG) or Waterproof Over Laminate (WOL) can give this media a glossy finish. As an alternative to laminate sheets, we also offer an aerosol version, UV Over Laminate Spray (LLA5000).

Just how removable is removable?

The adhesive strength on the removable vinyl is actually quite strong. It is designed to last, in place, for long durations but also afford the user the flexibility to remove the decal as required. In the event residue is left behind after removal, simple citric acid products or "gunk" removers are effective in cleaning the surface.

I'd like to attach a decal to the side of my boat, can this media be submerged for long periods and retain its waterproof nature?

This is not recommended, but may be achievable if the right coating is applied, such as a thick coat of 2 part polyurethane. It is less likely that the ink wash off the page than it is that the adhesive will become worn. If submerged, the adhesive properties of the paper will decrease and eventually the printed design may simply fall off the surface.

How long might a printed design be expected to last in the sun?

This will be entirely dependent upon the ink used to print the image. Pigment and solvent inks last much longer than dye-based inks and coupled with a laminate, may last for months at a time.
